Pre-tournament advisory can be found at https://www.dropbox.com/s/ilywnylnde95i6k/Boston%20VB%20Festival%202018-Referee%20Notes.pdf?dl=0. Please read in advance, print, and bring copy to tournament. We don’t want to get too harsh about this, but PLEASE do your part and be sure you know and use this information. The opportunity for issues increases dramatically due to the scale of the tournament == 160+ referees on 3,000+ matches on 97 courts.
Pre-tournament referee meetings. Please attend one prior to refereeing. Location: 104ABC
On Saturday and Sunday, there will be morning announcements/reminders at 725a. Not required, but strongly encouraged. This is your opportunity to ask questions.
Reminder: On Sunday, leave some extra time to get to the convention center. Historically, there can be traffic/parking issues. Don’t be the referee that messes up the schedule right out of the gate!
Housing grid is not yet live, but when it is, it will be at: https://www.dropbox.com/s/pif6s65re8dx0qa/Boston%20VB%20Festival%202018%20Officials%20Rooming%202-26-18.pdf?dl=0. If there are any issues, please address them as soon as possible. We did our best to accommodate all requests, but some were not logistically possible (everyone can’t stay in the closest/nicest hotel that’s most convenient to the convention center). Note that the tournament will pay for parking at your hotel (if possible, get it included in your bill; if not, give receipt to Maria on Sunday). We will NOT pay for parking at convention center or travel to/from your hotel.
We will be using Sportwrench to distribute the schedule to individual referees (live schedule and score reporting). Friday’s schedule will be published as early as we can. Do NOT write to ask about when the schedule will be available. We know you want this information and it will be published as soon as we can. This is a new capability for all of us. So, in addition to bringing your phone, please be flexible and adaptable.
IMPORTANT: Please note at the end of this page about getting W9s to the NERVA bookkeeper. Do NOT send W9 to me.

We are very close to being full for this tournament. There are still a few people who have applied who we are working on. We are also currently addressing referees with something other than full availability for the weekend.
Please be sure your status for a background check and SafeSport are current for this season. If you have any questions about that, please contact your regional referee/officials chair. As a last resort, contact Steve.
General event information is at http://jvctournaments.com/MizunoBostonVolleyballFestival.
Housing: Housing grid is not yet available and probably will not be until the week of the event.
Referee schedule: Distributed via Sportwrench as soon as it is available (likely Wed/Thurs of the week of the event).
Updated October 24, 2017
Dates: March 2-4, 2018
Boston Convention and Exhibition Center Halls A, B and C
90 Courts (will need ~150 referees)
Adults, GIrls, and Boys (18s Qualifier)
Play begins Friday, March 2 (40+ courts) @ 8a
There will be no pre-tournament meeting on Thursday night, but there will be meetings Friday and Saturday, depending on when referees start.
Referee registration at SportWrench.com. Please be sure to complete information about travel plans and housing needs (we can’t help you unless you tell us your plans).
We have not started accepting referees, but we will need MANY referees. If you are in good standing in your region, have the recommendation of your regional chair, and are available for all three days, there is little reason to think we will not accept you. Current SafeSport and USAV background check are both required.
Girls and Boys matches (2 out of 3):
Jr National/National: $35/match
Adult matches (2 sets to 21)
Jr National/National: $33/match
Travel reimbursement for USAV Junior National and National referees from outside of the New England Region of up to $150 with submission of airline or train receipt (must be available for all days and available to referee until 5p on Sunday).
Travel reimbursement for USAV Junior National and National officials driving from outside of the New England Region will be determined in advance on a case-by-case basis (must be available for all days and available to referee until 5p on Sunday).
Housing: Provided, double occupancy. Tournament will house referees on Thursday night and, if necessary, Sunday night. Hotel parking reimbursed.
Referees will be housed in several hotels in the area. We wish we could house everyone immediately next to the event. That, alas, will not be possible.
Based on information from SportWrench registration (flying/driving), we will put drivers in hotels with non-drivers. Thanks in advance for drivers assisting out-of-towners with transport to the convention center.
The tournament will pay for hotel parking.
Parking at the event is NOT covered.
General tournament information (http://jvctournaments.com/MizunoBostonVolleyballFestival)
To be paid, you must have a current W9 on file with the New England Region (if you have done so already, great). Address this in advance. An online version of the form can be found at https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9.pdf.
Complete and return to (do NOT send this to Steve):
