2019 Boston Volleyball Festival

This page contains relevant referee information for the 2019 Mizuno Boston Volleyball Festival. We work very hard to include all important information here as it becomes available.

Here’s how you can do your part… If you are officiating at this tournament, read this carefully. If there is something you think is missing, read it again. Be certain you’ve looked at all the applicable links and downloads. If after you’ve done that, something is missing, by all means, drop a line. We’re FAR from perfect and we want to be sure everyone has a hotel room for the weekend and knows where to go and when to be there. But the first thing we do when we get a question is to wonder if we messed (usually at a time when time is of the essence).

Thanks very much….

Please direct questions to Steve Webster, steve@srwebster.com (but please read below before writing).

Please bring line judge flags. The tournament does not provide referee boxes for those who need one. Please bring your own solution.

Housing assignments are available now at https://www.dropbox.com/s/28o5p845hwjsei2/2019%20Boston%20Volleyball%20Festival%20Housing.pdf?dl=0 . Please note that these were made based on the information you provided. If there are issues, please send email ASAP to steve@srwebster.com or call 617-512-8635.

Please check in by 10pm on the day of arrival OR call the hotel and confirm a late arrival and room type (phone numbers are listed). Hopefully this will solve any late night issues!

Finances and HOTEL parking

The tournament will reimburse you for HOTEL parking (not convention center parking). To be reimbursed, you must bring receipts for inclusion when we pay you for the tournament. (Lest there be any confusion … the tournament will not cover both parking AND travel reimbursement.)

More on being paid on Sunday… The NERVA bookkeepers will be on site to cut checks, so you’re paid when you walk out of the gym. You need to do your part here.

1 — Make sure your match totals are correct.

2 — Get a folio from your hotel on Sunday morning for any hotel parking.

3 – If you are eligible for travel assistance, provide the receipts (we’ve been asking for that for some time now).

We will be closing the books on referee costs for this tournament on Sunday when the tournament wraps up. We will not be doing follow up payments after the fact for anything other than people who are not in the gym to pick up checks on Sunday.

Housing arrangements, based on information available at the end of last week, will be posted on this page when it’s available. When you open it, please look thoroughly before declaring you are missing.

There will be a pre-event meeting on all three days (Friday at 745a, Saturday, 715a, and Sunday 715). Unless you are specifically excused, please plan on attending. Location Room 104B.

Referee Notes (please read, digest, and bring with you to tournament) —https://www.dropbox.com/s/8dzhrv9qqjbxo3h/2019%20Boston%20Volleyball%20Festival%20Referee%20Notes.pdf?dl=0

We will be using SportWrench to distribute the schedule to individual referees. You will be able to obtain your schedule via your phone or other mobile device. In addition to the online schedule, we will have a hard copy at championship. But, the primary distribution for most of our personnel will be done electronically. This will ensure you have the latest schedule, we will have accurate payroll, etc.

We will be publishing Friday’s schedule live on Thursday. Please do not write to ask about the schedule. When it is available, it will be posted. Until it is posted, it is not ready. Watch this page for more information.

Looking at the weather, there may be some rain on Thursday, but no major snow to be had.

See you soon.

We have put together a preliminary housing grid (without hotels). To be sure we have things right, we need you to look at your arrangements:

   Roommate
   Check-in date
   Check-out date
   Means of travel

https://www.dropbox.com/s/543939yg0584p5s/BVBFest_Roommate_2-12.pdf?dl=0

There is no need to reply if everything is okay (in fact, please don’t add to my inbox traffic).

If you have an issue, please reply by 10p Thursday night (2/14),

Thanks very much for your help. We hope that by doing this, we’ll save ourselves from those last minute snafus.

See you soon!

Please be sure to complete information about travel plans and housing needs (we can’t help you unless you tell us your plans).

If you are in good standing in your region, have the recommendation of your regional chair, and are available for all three days, there is little reason to think we will not accept you. Current SafeSport and USAV background check are both required.

     Regional: $31/match
     Jr National/National: $35/match

Travel reimbursement for USAV Junior National and National officials driving from outside of the New England Region will be determined in advance on a case-by-case basis (must be available for all days and available to referee until 5p on Sunday).

Housing: Provided, double occupancy. Tournament will house referees on Thursday night and, if necessary, Sunday night. Hotel parking reimbursed. Parking at the event is NOT covered.

HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS

Referees will be housed in several hotels in the area. We wish we could house everyone immediately next to the event. That, alas, will not be possible.

Based on information from SportWrench registration (flying/driving), we will put drivers in hotels with non-drivers. Thanks in advance for drivers assisting out-of-towners with transport to the convention center.

The tournament will pay for hotel parking. Parking at the event is NOT covered.

Payment:

To be paid, you must have a current W9 on file with the New England Region (if you have done so already, great). The NERVA bookkeeper will be on hand and you can give it to her then. An online version of the form can be found at https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9.pdf.

You will be paid by check for the tournament before you leave the event.
