NERVA GOOD STANDING POLICY
For a certified official to be a member in good standing within the New England Region Volleyball Association (NERVA), an official must meet the following criteria. It is the responsibility of the Officials Chair to aid officials in maintaining their “Good Standing” status. The following is the New England Region “Good Standing” policy. Except where specifically noted, all requirements must be completed annually.
PROVISIONAL OFFICIALS
- Maintain current NERVA/USAV membership.
- Complete Designated online coursework at the USAV Academy.
- Pass the USAV official test at the USAV academy by February 1st.
- Pass an on-court practical examination as both R1 and R2. If minimum requirements are not met, you must be observed again, by a different observer.
- Work one (1) full day at a NERVA event, or Comparable service to the USAV Official’s Division (at the discretion of the Officials Coordinator)
- Adhere to the code of conduct, dress, and professionalism set forth by the USAV listed in the rulebook, guidebook, and NERVA Officials’ Handbook.
REGIONAL OFFICIALS
- Maintain current NERVA/USAV membership.
- Complete designated online coursework at the USAV Academy.
- Pass the USAV official test at the USAV academy by February 1st.
- Pass an on-court practical examination every three (3) years as both R1 and R2.
- If minimum requirements are not met, you must be observed again, by a different observer.
- After a second unsuccessful observation, you must go through the upgrade process to retain your Regional certification.
- Work two (2) full days at a NERVA event, or Comparable service to the USAV Official’s Division (at the discretion of the Officials Coordinator)
- Adhere to the code of conduct, dress, and professionalism set forth by the USAV listed in the rulebook, guidebook, and NERVA Officials’ Handbook.
JUNIOR NATIONAL & NATIONAL OFFICIALS
- Pay membership fees to NERVA & USAV.
- Pass the background screening.
- Complete all SafeSport requirements.
- Pass the USAV official test on the USAV academy as determined by the USAV Official’s Division.
- Work at least one (1) full day as a referee at a NERVA event, and at least two (2) additional full days at a NERVA event as either a referee, trainer, rater, or other qualifying activity (as approved by the Official’s Chair).
- Adhere to the code of conduct, dress, and professionalism set forth by the USAV listed in the rulebook, guidebook, and NERVA Officials’ Handbook.
- Adhere to the policy of the USAV National office for maintaining Jr. National or National status. This is your responsibility but governed by the regional Officials Coordinator
- Junior National Candidates will follow the New England Region’s Good Standing policy for Junior National & National Officials.
