NERVA GOOD STANDING POLICY

For a certified official to be a member in good standing within the New England Region Volleyball Association (NERVA), an official must meet the following criteria. It is the responsibility of the Officials Coordinator to aid officials in maintaining their “Good Standing” status. The following is the New England Region “Good Standing” policy.

Apprentice and Provisional Officials

  1. Pay annual membership fees to NERVA & USAV.
    • Pass the yearly background screening
    • Complete all SafeSport yearly requirements
  2. Complete Designated online coursework on the USAV Academy.
  3. Pass the USAV official test at the USAV academy by February 1st.
  4. Display a level of professionalism appropriate to the official’s level of certification.
  5. Pass a yearly on-court practical examination as both R1 and R2. If minimum requirements are not met, you must be observed again, by a different observer.
  6. Work one (1) full day at a NERVA event, or Comparable service to the USAV Official’s Division (at the discretion of the Officials Coordinator)

REGIONAL OFFICIALS

  1. Pay annual membership fees to NERVA & USAV.
    • Pass the yearly background screening
    • Complete all SafeSport yearly requirements
  2. Complete Designated online coursework on the USAV Academy.
  3. Pass the USAV official test at the USAV academy by February 1st.
  4. Display a level of professionalism appropriate to the official’s level of certification.
  5. Pass an on-court practical examination every three (3) years as both R1 and R2.
    • If minimum requirements are not met, you must be observed again, by a different observer.
    • After a second unsuccessful observation, you must go through the upgrade process to retain your Regional certification.
  6. Work two (2) full days at a NERVA event, or Comparable service to the USAV Official’s Division (at the discretion of the Officials Coordinator)

JUNIOR NATIONAL & NATIONAL OFFICIALS

  1. Pay annual membership fees to NERVA & USAV.
    • Pass the yearly background screening
    • Complete all SafeSport yearly requirements
  2. Attend an approved USAV New England Region clinic annually.
  3. Pass the USAV official test on the USAV academy (USAV Requirement).
  4. Participate in at least three (3) of the following region activities as outlined below (can duplicate same activity). Exceptions must be approved by the Officials Coordinator:
    • Attend the USAV National Official’s Improvement Clinic.
    • Work a one-day NERVA junior event. (Minimum of twice per season)
    • Work a NERVA junior weekend convention center event.
    • Work a USAV National Qualifier.
    • Perform two ratings unpaid at a NERVA event per year (Submitted to Officials Coordinator).
    • Work other NERVA volleyball event(s)
    • Involvement as a New England Board of Directors member or club director.
  5. Be able to perform ratings when asked to do so at New England Region events.
  6. Obtain one informal evaluation annually.
  7. Adhere to the code of conduct, dress, and professionalism set forth by the USAV listed in the rulebook, guidebook, and NERVA Officials’ Handbook.
    Adhere to the policy of the USAV National office for maintaining Jr. National or National status. This is your responsibility but governed by the regional Officials Coordinator
  8. National Candidates will follow the New England Region’s Good Standing policy for National Officials.
